The Magickal and Mystical
Uses of Runes
(How to Read Runes and
use them in Magick)
Runes compared to other alphabets
All alphabets contain a group of symbols with names and the Runic Alphabet is no exception. These symbols are combined together in various combinations to relay more complex ideas of words versus just things.
The alphabet we are use to in the modern world starts with the symbols A, B and C with names that are pronounced "ay", bee" and "cee".
The Runic alphabet most commonly used today starts with runes named "fehu", "uruz" and "thurisaz".
Where the big difference comes in is that A, B and C have no meaning beyond A, B and C while "fehu" means cattle in the Germanic language, "uruz" means aurochs and "thurisaz" means giant. Every letter of the runic alphabet has a complex meaning of it own that goes far beyond the simple meanings of our modern languages individual letters.
Because they have no meaning of their own, A, B and C do not make for good keys to connected with the Universal knowledge. Fehu or horse/cattle on the other hand immediately brings images to mind of what a horse/cattle are, what they do, what their strengths and weaknesses are, how you use them and much more.
It is this symbolism, this ability to see in the minds eye what the rune means that allows them to key off deep seated memories within the very being of the reader and makes them the perfect divinatory tool.
