Getting Answers for Your Pendulum
As we talked about at the beginning of this class, the term "dowsing" is used mainly in referrence to using a pendulum or rods to find water, minderals or other objects within the earth. When your goal is to get answers to a question, it is usually called a "pendulum reading", much like a tarot reading.
1) Your first step is to prepare your question. For this reading, start with a question that has a simple yes or no answer. We'll get into other subjects later. Will I get ______? Am I on the right path with my business? Will I get the job at _______? Word your questions similar to these and you will be fine.
Should I do this or that? When will I get _______? What will my boyfriend get me for my birthday? Questions such as these do not work well at this stage because they are open ended. There is not a specific yes or no answer involved.
Once your question is prepare, sit in a comfortable position with your pendulum in your main hand and your elbow on the table. If your pendulum is moving, use your other hand to stop the movement.
2) In this next step, your goal is to determine which direction the pendulum will swing when the answer is yes, and which is will swing when the answer it no.
Hold your hand in a relaxed mannor with the pendulum bob a couple of inches from the table in a stopped position. Either out loud or to yourself, ask the pendulum which direction is "yes". Without tensing your arm or hand, try to hold your hand still and relaxed.
Keep repeating the question, "which direction is "yes"" and within a few minutes your pendulum will slowly start to move. Try not to move, just stay in the relaxed position and allow the pendulum to swing any way it wants to swing.
Make note of which way the pendulum swings because this direction signifies a yes answer.
The pendulum will almost always go either back and forth to your body, or back and forth across your body. The direction may not be 100% right down the middle, perhaps at a 10% angle, but for most people it is close to straight out and back from the body or across the body. It is however possible that it will swing almost completely between the two directions above, almost at a WNW or ENE direction.
Some people teach that swinging directly to and from the body is always yes, while swing right to left is always no and any of the other directions is always undecided. I have found over the years that most people can train their bodies to accept those specific directions but there have been a few that tried very hard yet their bodies
simply would not accept the directions normally accepted for yes and no.
So I always teach my students to allow their bodies to choose which direction is right for them. It seems to allow students to attune to the pendulum faster and with more accuracy.
3) Once you know which way the pendulum swings for a yes or no answer, you are ready to ask the question you prepared in step 1. You can ask it outloud or to yourself.
Start with the pendulum in a stopped position in front of you. Hold the pendulum in the position shown in the photo above and rest your elbow on the table in front of you. Keep your hand and arm relaxed but at the same time, try to hold them still so you do not cause the pendulum to swing.
Ask your question and concentrate your mind on the question. Within a few moments, the pendulum should start to swing. Compare the direction of the swing with the direction your body chose for yes and/or no and you will have your answer.
